Men's Golf Opens Season At Marshall Invitational
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Richmond men’s golf team opens the 2013-14 season at the Marshall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Guyan Country Club.
After qualifying that concluded last week, Richmond’s lineup in the season-opening event will include senior Jack Wilkes, juniors Colin McDade and Danny Pizetoski, and sophomores David Germann and John David Sanderson. Freshman Mark Reilly will play as an individual.
Germann was second on the team in scoring average last season at 73.95 with three top-10 finishes.
This summer McDade, who was third on the team in scoring average last season at 74.13, became the first amateur to win the Westchester Golf Association Open since 1971. He also won the WGA Amateur, becoming the first amateur to win both events in 91 years.
Wilkes enters his senior year with a 75.46 scoring average, while Pizetoski and Sanderson each played in four tournaments last season as freshmen.
The Marshall Invitational is the first of four fall tournaments for the Spiders. Richmond plays at the VCU Shootout at Hermitage Country Club on Sept. 23 and 24.
The Spiders also play in the Temple University Invitational at Philmont Country Club in Phildelphia and the Wendy’s Kiawah Classic at Turtle Point Golf Club in Kiawah, S.C.
